History of the DreamSofa project

DreamSofa1
The Dream Sofa was a sailboat I owned with a partner and raced in the late 90's. When we sold the boat the new owners re-named it...

Several years ago my son Toby and I climbed San Luis Peak in the southern Colorado Rockies. It's one of the easier "Fourteeners" - peaks above fourteen thousand feet - and not as crowded as some. On the way up, during one of our (frequent) stops and while looking at the terrific view, I started thinking about how comfortable I was - and how absurd it would be to sit on a pile of sharp rocks in my living-room at home. The DreamSofa project was born.

At the top, we found the usual cairn. With Toby's somewhat bemused help, I set about converting it to a sofa. Some other hikers arrived and took the photo. That's a survey marker in the middle, which we found in the center of the cairn. I left our names there on a scrap of waterproof paper, wondering if anyone would figure out how to contact me or send a photo. No-one did.

So the elements of the current project were there back then, except that now many people carry a digital camera, sharing photos is easy, and blogging/social media has exploded. All I needed to do was build a new sofa...
